Honey Apple Crumble Recipe Manawa Honey Nz

  • 4 ½ cups peeled, cored and sliced apples
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp water
  • ½ cup Tāwari or Pua-ā-Tāne Wild Forest Honey
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 1cup flour
  • 1⁄2 cup rolled oats
  • 4 tbsp butter

  • Preheat oven to 175 degrees °C. Lightly grease a medium casserole dish.
  • Evenly spread the apple slices in the prepared dish. In a small bowl, mix the lemon juice and water, and pour over the apples. Drizzle apples with Tāwari or Pua-ā-Tāne Honey, and sprinkle with cinnamon.
  • In a bowl, mix the brown sugar, flour, oats, and butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle over the apples.
  • Bake 25 minutes in the preheated oven, until apples are tender and topping is lightly browned.
  • Serve with cream, ice cream or custard

  • Include the lemon juice if you have it as it helps prevent the apples darkening as they cook. Lemon juice also adds flavour with the honey and cinnamon – delicious!
  • If you prefer, replace the rolled oats with the same amount of flour. We love the crunchy texture and nutritive value of rolled oats for this recipe but you may prefer a straight flour crumble for this dessert.
